Giant flag made of 5,000 cupcakes donated for DU31 thanksgiving party

After serving as Davao City's mayor for three decades, president-elect Rodrigo Duterte has now less than 30 days before he is proclaimed as the 16th president of the Philippines. To celebrate his sweet victory in winning the past election, Duterte hosted a thanksgiving party in his honor last Saturday, June 4 where an estimated 500,000 people flocked to express support for him. Among the highlights of incumbent president Duterte's thanksgiving party is a giant Philippine flag comprised of 5,000 vanilla cupcakes. The massive flag was a gift from Steven Lim of Davao Bakers' Club Association to congratulate Duterte for winning the election. The giant display was made specially for the VIP guests who attended the thanksgiving party.

Behind this amazing creation are two whole days of planning and hardwork. As a matter of fact, the process of frosting the individual cupcakes took them 12 hours to finish. According to Andrea and Erwin Anonuevo, owners of Annipie and also members of Davao Bakers' Club Association, the frosted cupcakes will not be possible without the help of more than 30 bakers who volunteered to make it happen.

We are all supporters of Digong. Ang association namin ang nag spearhead, Davao Bakers' Club Assocation. This is sort of a gift to Digong.

On the other hand, despite of the presence of at least half a million people in the crowded venue, no incident of violence whatsoever was reported. In an interview with radio dzBB, Chief Inspector Milgrace Griz said that the party was "generally peaceful and orderly". A total of 45 cases of fainting and shortness of breath due to the thickness of the crowd were recorded while four others needed immediate medical attention due to hypertension. From 200,000 by early 3:30 PM, the crowd continued to thicken until it reached more or less 500,000 by 9:30 PM. Duterte arrived on the venue past 8 PM and left shortly after his speech.
